PRO-ACTIVES to lead London Volunteering Project
The 5 London PRO-ACTIVE Partnerships will be supporting the National Skills Academy to deliver the ‘volunteering’ arm of the Mayor’s Legacy Programme.
The aim of the project is to create a step change in the way that sports volunteering is delivered in London by developing a co-ordinated approach which will ultimately help to increase participation in sport and physical activity.
The project will particularly focus on supporting community sports Organisations to identify and fulfil their volunteering needs and will include:
• Making finding a volunteer easier for Deployers / Activity Providers (e.g. clubs, community organisations)
• Helping Deployers understand how to identify the skills they need in a volunteer and how to find the right solutions for that need
• Supporting potential volunteers to know where to go to find opportunities
The PRO-ACTIVES will be working closely with Volunteer Centres and local and regional partners to move towards a more co-ordinated approach, and ensure that existing good practice is rolled out and available resources are maximised. The work programme will be governed by a multi-agency Steering Group and potential work strands will include a ‘volunteer mentor scheme’. Design and development work is now underway with more detailed plans and roll-out expected in the New Year.
