Kate Hoey Launches ‘Inclusive and Active 2’
The Mayors Commissioner for Sport, Kate Hoey, officially launched “Inclusive and Active 2” on Monday 6th September in London’s Living Room at City Hall.
“Inclusive and Active 2” is the new five year sport and physical activity strategy for disabled people in London, and was officially launched to coincide with the two year to go milestone for the London 2012 Paralympic Games, as the grass root sport and physical activity Games legacy for disabled people in London.
Created in partnership between the Greater London Authority (GLA), NHS London and Interactive, the strategy presents a vision of active disabled Londoners and identifies targeted outcomes to increase opportunities for disabled people to participate in sport and physical activity.
Kate Hoey, Mayors Commissioner for Sport said "I am delighted to officially launch this London-wide strategy to help increase sporting participation amongst disabled Londoners. It is essential that London continues towards becoming a genuinely inclusive city and that there is a lasting sporting legacy for all to 2012 and beyond.”
The success of the strategy relies on agencies across the sport, health and disability sectors in London adopting the strategy and taking on the responsibility to include disabled people. “Inclusive and Active 2” has already been adopted by the London Community Sports Board, signifying its precedence in the sporting landscape.
NHS London Regional Director of Public Health Dr Simon Tanner said “‟Inclusive and Active 2” is a blueprint for galvanising partners across the sport, health and disability sectors. We need to work together to encourage everyone to get involved in sport and physical activity and improve their health”.
Interactive Chair Tracey McCillen, said “Inclusive and Active 2‟ is a new and exciting collaboration across the disability, health and sports sectors. It will achieve a real culture change as more mainstream providers act upon their responsibility to include disabled people and more disabled people embrace sport and physical activity as a viable lifestyle choice.”
“Inclusive and Active 2‟ went live across the co-owner websites on Friday 30th July and is available to download on the following websites: Greater London Authority (GLA), NHS London and Interactiv.
