Get involved in Nordic Walking

Nordic Walking is a fast growing activity that can be done by anybody, anywhere. It uses specially designed walking poles to engage the upper body, take the pressure off lower body joints and effectively turn a walk into a workout. It's ideal for those who are not keen or able to do typical exercise but also great for people who simply want to be active outdoors and get maximum results in a short space of time. It uses 90% of the skeletal muscles

Across the Uk there are now over 2,000 NWUK Instructors delivering sessions as diverse as exercise referral for those with health issues and sports specific training for triathletes. Many areas have large groups of Nordic walkers who meet up under the guidance of their local Instructor to join in classes that can vary from a simple Nordic walk to a fast paced circuit or fitness walk. Over 100 local Authorities and charities like Age UK also find it works brilliantly as a health promotion tool.

NWUK are the leading authority on the technique and provide training and support for their Instructors. They have also developed ready made programmes to help the Instructors deliver to different markets - weight loss, wellbeing and ultimate Nordic circuits are some examples of these. The training provided is suitable for people from any background but is comprehensive enough to be recognised as a full fitness instruction qualification. For those already fitness qualified, only a practical course is required.

If you fancy setting up a local group, workplace activity or becoming an Instructor yourself - find out more here http://nordicwalking.co.uk/?page=become_an_instructor&c=36 or by calling Kaye on 0845 260 9339

The poles are reasonably priced and most Instructors do supply them for people wishing to try the technique. Most people then prefer to get themselves a pair so they can benefit from them both with and without the group.
