Active Celebration
£90,000 invested in the Active Celebration in Merton and Sutton
NHS South West London have commissioned PRO-ACTIVE South London, the County Sports Partnership for the South London sub region, to deliver a programme of activity to increase sport and physical activity levels in Sutton and Merton in the build up to, during and post 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The programme is funded jointly between NHS South West London (£70k) and NHS London (£20k).
Launched in December 2011, the ‘Active Celebration’ programme will deliver 12 months of activities with the aim of raising physical activity participation amongst the least active residents of Sutton and Merton and capitalize on the effect of hosting the games.
The Active Celebration aims to get 3000 residents more active, increase in the capacity of clubs and local organisations to deliver quality activities to local people by training 144 coaches and by growing the numbers of trained volunteers by 250.
Active Celebration Coach and Instructor Bursary:
PRO-ACTIVE South London are running a Coach and Instructor Bursary as part of the Active Celebration project - exclusively in Sutton and Merton. Participants can receive full funding to upskill their sports coaching or instructor qualifications at Level 1 and Level 2 - this will involve completing volunteer hours as the scheme is subsidised by the Mayor's Skills Fund.

Girls and women in London are on average 10% less likely than men to take part in sport and physical activity and although this gap narrows slightly as participation rates increase, there is still significant inequality across the majority of South London**.
PRO-ACTIVE South London (P-ASL) are dedicated to raising awareness of this inequality and are therefore encouraging all types of organisations with the ability to deliver sport and physical activity to women and girls to take part in LOVE2.
To be delivered before 30th September 2012, PRO-ACTIVE South London are facilitating a women and girls sports and physical activity festival across South London branded LOVE2.
LOVE2 will require organisations to hold sessions totalling at least 6 hours of coaching during that period.

This will involve sessions being delivered across Sutton and Merton to either increase capacity of existing sessions or create new opportunities for participation. Funded projects will be inclusive of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation and BAME group.
The NEVER2LATE programme will look to fund organisations who can deliver quality participation opportunities to older people within Sutton and Merton and who can demonstrate that the project will be sustainable following the completion of funded delivery including how they will link to existing clubs and activity providers. As a portion of the funding will be results based, PRO-ACTIVE South London expects deliverers to set realistic and achievable targets for delivery. The programme finishes on November 2012 and therefore applications should be received by no later than August 2012 and delivery commence no later than September 2012. Activity can commence at any point from January 2012 once applications have been approved.
