£700 funding available to clubs or projects in Sutton & Merton to increase participation in sport

PRO-ACTIVE South London and NHS South-West London are offering clubs and projects in Sutton and Merton up to £700 to run sport and physical activity sessions in the summer of 2013 as part of the Keep The Flame Alive programme. Up to £550 is available to deliver a series of activitiesdesigned to attract new participants in a sport or physical activity, and a further £150 offered towards coaching or leaderships courses for staff or volunteers.
Keep The Flame Alive aims to increase sports participation in the boroughs of Sutton and Merton. It will build on London’s Olympic and Paralympic legacy and the enthusiasm for sport that 2012 created by offering new opportunities to those who don’t currently participate in sport or physical activity. The programme is specifically aimed at under-represented groups in Sutton and Merton including women, people over the age of 50, people with a disability and ethnic minority groups.
If you are a sports or social club or project that are interested in Keeping The Flame Alive, all you need to do is plan a series of activities that are aimed at attracting new participants. You could run an activity designed for those who have never really participated in sport before; you might want to target those that have played sport previously but since given up; or perhaps you wish to attract people who play other sports or activities and may be tempted by something new. All of these activity plans are available as templates to get you started, with suggestions on session plans and attracting participants.
The benefits of Keeping The Flame Alive can be felt by everybody. Deliverers can increase their participation or membership, and benefit from the added exposure that the Keep The Flame Aliveprogramme will offer. They will also receive up to £550 to deliver activities, with an extra £150 offered to up-skill coaches or volunteers as a reward for participation. The community will be empowered to take part in new sports opportunities and hopefully inspired to pursue a more active lifestyle. And the Keep The Flame Alive programme will take another step towards ensuring that the legacy of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is felt in Sutton and Merton.
